In the 30 years they visited Sanibel, Sharon and Jerry Miller said every major decision they made was on the sandy beaches during their walks.
When they moved here for good in 2012, the Millers had another choice to make: Start enjoying retired life or start a special-needs camps for adults.
Retirement would wait. The Millers wanted to honor one son – Robert – and provide opportunities for another – Benjamin – while creating a camp with the theme of “A place where you are someone special.”
Trailways Camps was established to develop and provide camping experiences for adults with special needs and respite for their caregivers. Campers thrive on having fun, friends and support while parents and caregivers are able to rest, relax and enjoy some time for themselves. Our campers are encouraged to participate in all activities. We’ve found ways to adapt and adjust for each person, and we cheer them on to victories big and small. Camp is a place where everyone is special.
