Trailways Camps provide residential camping experiences for adults with special needs and respite for their families and caregivers. It will host full sessions on Oct. 11-14, Oct. 19-21 (fully booked), Nov. 15-18 and Feb. 21-24, with a grand “I AM SPECIAL” Camper Reunion event on April 2 on Sanibel. A range of activities will be offered, such as fishing, swimming, hiking, hayrides, s’mores, canoeing, arts and crafts, hiking, visits from support animals, horseback riding, talent shows and more. Sign up opportunities on Sanibel and/or instructions for online registration are available and upon request throughout the 2021-22 season. Trailways Camps were established in Southwest Florida by the founders in honor of their sons with rare disease and special needs; Robert passed in 2005, and Benjamin passed in 2020. Twenty-three camp sessions, serving hundreds of adults with special needs, have been provided since 2012.
