Trailways Camp members will celebrate their renovated fishing pier and walkway at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Riverside Retreat Center in LaBelle.
The Robert V. and Benjamin G. Miller Fund, Riverside Retreat, Sanibel Community Church, Southwest Florida Community Foundation and the Lion’s Club of Sanibel contributed to the renovation, which resulted in a Americans with Disabilities Act fully compliant wheelchair accessible fishing pier and walkway.
“After several years of planning and coordination, the pier and walkway are complete and will make fishing safer and more inclusive for campers with mobility impairments,” said Rick Evanchyk, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida. “The new pier and walkway enable campers to be more independent too, giving them the power to make their way to the river with little to no assistance.”
